Accomodation

With so many accommodation options in Great Western, you’ll be spoilt for choice but the Glamping tents or the Vine Lodge on the Seppelts property are perfect if you’re after something a bit special. Travel back in time and stay at the cosy Best’s Cottage that was originally built back in the 1860’s. There is also accommodation in the main Street of Great Western with the Great Western Hotel and the Villas.

Christmas Day

Not sure what to do for Christmas arvo? No worries, the Great Western Hotel has you sorted. The bar is open Christmas day from 11am-3pm so you can have some drinks and catch up with loved ones. You can even come and pick up some ice if you need to top up the eski.

Boxing Day Breakfast

Treat yourself to a delicious Boxing Day breaky and coffee at Salinger’s Cafe or if you’re looking for breakfast on the go, the General Store next door has hot egg and bacon rolls ready to pick up from 6am. Call 5356 2211 to book your table.

Seppelt Cellar Door

Keep the holiday celebrations going and indulge in some of the many wine tastings available in Great Western including the famous sparkling wines on offer at Seppelt Cellar Door. Open every day from 10-5 (except Christmas), you can really make a day of it there by joining one of the historic underground cellar tours running hourly from 11-3 followed by a guided wine tasting. Peruse the Shaft House museum and Mr. Joseph and Co. gift shop and spend the rest of the afternoon with a glass of wine and a cheese platter on the beautifully manicured lawns enjoying the view of the vineyard. The tour cost is $15 for an adult, $10 for concession and free for children. Bookings are preferred for tastings and tours, via Rezdy or call the Cellar Door 53612239.

Best’s Winery

Check out some of the other wineries that are open during the Christmas and New Years period including Best’s Winery where you can taste their superb riesling. Open 10-5 everyday and make sure you call and book your tasting so you don’t miss out. Complementary and premium tastings ($10 per person) are available on the hour, between 10am and 4pm. Grampians Estate

Need to replenish your wine supply to get you through the rest of the holidays? Head to Grampians Estate where you try some of their famous shiraz and stock up. Open daily 10am to 4pm, wine tastings 10am to 3.15pm and food service 11am-3pm, daily. $5 per head fee for wine tasting, redeemable on purchase of wine. Bookings preferred 53562400. C

ATR Wine Lounge

The ATR Wine Lounge also has wine tastings available and is open from the 26th of December to 3rd of Jan where you can try some of their refreshing rose. Or you can just sit outside, relax and soak up the picturesque surroundings with a glass of wine. Miner’s Ridge

Miners Ridge wines are produced using traditional methods of hand harvesting, open fermenting and basket pressing to create premium quality wines. New Years Eve

After all that wine tasting and unwinding you’ll be ready to party again and celebrate the end of 2020 and welcome in the new year and there’s no better place to do that than in the Great Western Hotel’s iconic beer garden.
